Last night Blackmagic released a Mirco Converter that has a rugged, miniature design that you can take anywhere. Flexibility was at the heart of this devices engineering, Blackmagic have innovatively featured full side 3G-SDI amd HDMI connections, which means that the cables that you already own will fit seamlessly with this converter. They are compatible with SD and HD-SDI equipment, as the SDI connections are multi-rate. “Micro Converter HDMI to SDI features two 3G-SDI outputs, so you can connect it to multiple devices such as switchers, routers, monitors and more!” and they can be powered either via USB or DC.

Sharp Pushes Boundaries With New Announcement

Sharp have announced a Super 35 8K CMOS sensor 60p camcorder – 8C-B60A. Sharp was a late comer to the Super 35mm market, but after announcing an 8K, 33 million pixel Super 35 CMOS sensor 60p camcorder they certainly turned some heads. Sharp has claimed that it is a world first, integrating capabilities for video shooting, recording, playback and line output.

At the time of the survey devised by sharp, July 2017, it was the first camcorder that integrated capabilities for video shooting and recording, playback and line output for 8K (60P). Its Super 35 mm equivalent CMOS image sensor with 33 million pixels makes it compatible with 8K. Live 8K transmissions and replay output after recording is possible because real-time outputs of uncompressed 8K (60P) images can be performed simultaneously with recording.

The camera was developed with a Tokyo based company Astrodesign inc, a specialist in 8K image technologies. The camcorder realises 4:2:2 sampling and 10-bit recording of 8K (60P) images. A compression method that exerts low burden on the CPU makes editing more efficient and allows approximately 40 minutes of continuous recording (when using a 2TB SSD pack). Sharp explains the Grass Valley HQX Codec utilizes a coding method that is easier on the cameras CPU enabling efficient 8K (60P) image capture.

Information on this product is limited, it certainly is looking to be an exciting new tool for creators.

Why GoPro are now being used in Blockbuster films?

Since GoPro products hit our stores in 2002 it has changed the lives of shutterbugs everywhere. Allowing your average Joe to create beautiful, captivating footage both inland and underwater, giving no end to their creativity. The GoPro phenomenon doesn’t look as though it has any intention of slowing down. The newly released GoPro HERO6 has a stunning 4K camera and shoots in RAW and the GoPro Karma allows film makers to take to the skies.

Now GoPro is now being used in feature films. GoPro was used in the latest Fast and Furious film, due to its small size it promises a unique view point that isn’t possible with a traditional cinematic camera. Check out the video below to see some of the behind the scenes stunt footage.

The Hardcore Henry film released in 2016 was almost entirely shot on GoPro, which created an innovative first point-of-view action feature film. Creating a unique rig to house the GoPro, director Ilya Naushuller provided the views a gamer like perspective that  hadn’t been seen on a action movie in theatre.

Similarly, Ridley Scott used the GoPro for filming several scenes in the blockbuster film the Martian. Scott stated that “New technologies like GoPro give filmmakers the opportunity to really push the language of cinema forward and introduce audiences to new perspectives and layers of storytelling that can really be quite engaging”

In the new Alien Covenant film released in May 2017, Scott decided to again use the GoPro to capture the point of view shots which gave the audience an aspect that they hadn’t experienced before. Scott wanted to capture the intimacy, suspense and the intensity of the characters which GoPro was able to provide. GoPros could be seen throughout the film, as GoPro HERO5 was mounted on a GoPro 3-way Camera Grip.

Check out the footage below of the GoPro’s in action:

GoPro is becoming more and more popular in blockbuster films and is now a familiar face on most movie sets, due to its powerful filming capabilities, its small dynamic size and its robust durability, which makes

First Photos of The GoPro Fusion 360 Camera Appear Online!

Although GoPro announced the Fusion (or at least their Pilot Programme) back in April, there have been very little images available of this new camera. As of this morning all that has changed…

Front

The folks over at Engadget have been able to get their hands on one and share it with the rest of the world giving us the first real look at GoPro’s compact 360-degree action cam. We can see that the Fusion is clearly bigger than the Hero5 Black but this is due to the fact that one you flip the camera over there is another lens on the rear. Gopro have done well to pack two cameras, any extra hardware, plus the battery into such a small housing and, at a guess, about a 40% increase. Speaking of lenses, the one thing GoPro has removed is the protective cover that we saw on the Hero5 allowing full, unrestricted 180 degree views.

Rear

Everything else on the camera body is instantly recognisable to the trusty GoPro user. The front has the familiar LCD screen, record stop/start button and recording light. Turn it over and you’ll find the mic, what seems like a speaker and another recording light. The key thing to note out of those is the inclusion of the speaker which indicates that this will not be waterproof and will require a housing if you plan to get wet. Both the Power and Mode buttons can be found on the left side of the body. No word on where the battery will be placed inside the body but we suspect the compartment door is on the bottom next to the standard GoPro mount.

Still no word on the official release date for the Fusion but as soon as we know, you’ll know.

Flight of The Swans Wins Campaign of the Year at the 2017 ENDS Environmental Impact Award

Flight of the Swans won Campaign of the Year at the 2017 ENDS Environmental Impact Awards.

Sacha was there at the Chelsea Physic Garden in London to accept the award. The judging panel apparently chose Flight of the Swans for the scale of its ambition, huge profile and international reach.

Also commended in the category was the innovative Pumpkin Rescue campaign by Hubbub UK.

It is the first year that long-running environment magazine, the ENDS Report, has run the awards. A full list of nominees and winners is available on their website.

WWT have thanked BPS and all the other Partners for the roles they’ve played in making a success of Flight of the Swans.

Below is an excerpt from the ENDS Environmental Impact Awards

FLIGHT OF THE SWANS

WILDFOWL & WETLANDS TRUST

‘Flight of the Swans’ was an expedition and a campaign that saw a ‘human swan’ flying the entire migration route of the Bewick’s swan, from Arctic Russia back to the UK, to try to find out why the species is disappearing, and what we can do to save them. As she and the swans raced to keep ahead of the arctic winter, she also dropped in on even remote communities for face to face meetings with schools, hunting groups, politicians and others, and shared footage and stories of her experiences with the media to raise local and international awareness.
