Used Canon HJ22 Lens (U/HJ22ex7.6B.IASE) is the longest focal length portable HDTV production lens offered by Canon (without an image stabilization system). It is a smaller and lighter replacement for the former highly popular HJ21ex7.8B lens. It is a strategic member of the family of HD portable EFP lenses – that collectively offers an unusually broad range of creative options. This Lens is intended for producers and broadcasters having as their foremost priority the ability to shoot over long distances combined with wide angle capture in a lightweight (4.0 lbs) mobile production lens system having exceptional HDTV performance. It has four significant technologies converge to produce the HJ22ex7.6B portable HD production lens system that has been tailored to partner with today’s highest performing HDTV portable cameras and camcorders.

Long portable ENG/EFP lens
The HJ22ex7.6B IRSE A/IASE A is intended for producers and broadcasters requiring the ability to shoot over long distances combined with wide angle capture in a lightweight (1.81kg) portable lens system having exceptional HDTV performance.

This lens mobilizes the best in portable optical design criteria offering focal lengths up to 168mm (or 336mm with extender) and a wide-angle of 64.6 degrees horizontal (for the 16:9 aspect ratio). Combined with an exceptionally high sensitivity (F1.8 maximum aperture) this is a lens that can encompass an unusually broad range of shooting situations.

Digital Technologies
New third-generation enhanced digital servo systems using Canon-developed 16-bit optical rotary encoder devices introduce new creativity to handheld acquisition systems. Enhanced Digital Drive technology – encompasses a microcomputer driven servo control that embodies position memory and user-defined digital functionality to significantly empower the camera operator. A 16-bit rotary encoder for aperture control reports to the associated camera Iris control system (10-bit compatibility). Maximum Zoom speed is 0.5 seconds and Focus is 1.5 seconds

The focal range of 7.6mm to 167mm can be further extended to 34mm using the 2x range extender included in the lens. This highly flexible lens has been reduced in lengths to 221.5mm and in weight to 1.81kg producing a remarkably compact package that supports a broad range of productions.

Tight Control Over Optical Aberrations  

Close attention to managing a reduction in a variety of optical aberrations while also adopting an innovative new focusing system has produced an overall performance improvement over the predecessor model that benefits both HD ENG and general HD productions

High Optical Performance

Evolving design techniques, advanced optical materials and optical coatings, and continuing refinements to manufacturing processes have collectively contributed to the HJ22ex7.6B lens having very high optical performance and extended operational capabilities. Specifically these include a lowering of longitudinal chromatic aberration at the longer focal lengths, and curtailment of spherical and comatic aberrations. Adoption of new optical materials also afforded a reduction in curvature of field. The lens focusing system has also been improved over the conventional 2-group inner focus in terms of an improved resolution and contrast at the picture extremities especially at the telephoto side of the focal range.

Mechanical Technologies
Ergonomic mechanical design that produced this HD lens having the same size and weight as its SDTV predecessor. Compact digital servo drive unit is mounted to the lens at a 12.5 degree angle for comfort and balance. Magnesium alloy body for light weight and exceptional durability.

Ecological Design
All contemporary Canon lenses avoid the use of materials and substances potentially harmful to the environment. Lead has been removed from all optics and other identified substances from all components comprising the composite lens system.
