Used Sound Devices PIX 260i Video Recorder (5) (U/PIX 260I) is a file-based video recorder and player that records in up to 12-bit 4:4:4 1080p over 3G-SDI by means of Apple’s ProRes 4444 codec. You can also record in ProRes 4:2:2 and Avid’s DNxHD. For ProRes 4444 the transfer rate is 330Mbps and for the other codecs 220Mbps. Additional to video you can record up to 32 tracks of 48 kHz audio over Ethernet. The 260i up until the end of 2012 supported only up to 10-bit 4:2:2 recording. At the end of 2012 ProRes 4444 was added. If the recorder you receive doesn’t natively support 12-bit 4:4:4, you would simply need to download a free firmware upgrade from the Sound Devices website.

The 260i features hardware-based scaling capability that’s controlled via a simple menu. You can convert between interlaced and progressive, from 480i through 1080p, and between frame rates, all in real-time. Files originally recorded in 24p but converted to 1080i/60 can be converted back to 24p without loss in quality.
All recording is done onto either 2.5″ drives or eSATA drives, both sold separately. Two slots are available for the 2.5″ drives, and up to four eSATA drives can be simultaneously connected.
